Freddie Freeman’s ex-agent fires back at Doug Gottlieb’s testimony on the report

Freddie Freeman’s former agent has fired back at Doug Gottlieb after he dismissed this infamous report of a last-minute offer from the Atlanta Braves.

Remember the story about Freddie Freeman getting a last-minute offer from the Atlanta Braves this offseason that his agent allegedly never told him about?

yes, about it Turns out it wasn’t entirely true.

In case you missed it, Freddie Freeman left the Atlanta Braves this offseason after spending his entire career there. Freeman’s 11-year tenure with the Braves culminated in a World Series win in 2021, but he left with free reign to join the Los Angeles Dodgers. As heartbreaking as it was for fans, it seemed the breakup was understood by both sides as inevitable.

However, sports commentator Doug Gottlieb reported back in June that the Braves had made a definitive contract offer to Freeman’s agent, who refused to forward it to his client in order not to block the pending deal with the Dodgers, as Freeman allegedly wanted to stay in Atlanta. It was a gut punch and stabbing for Braves fans, and Freeman’s agent Casey Close was soon fired.

Well, months after the dust settled, Gottlieb retracted that report.

Gottlieb released a statement on Wednesday retracting his account of the alleged drama. The reason for this isn’t ethical, but to try and shake off the lawsuit Close filed against him a few months ago.

It wasn’t long before Close released a statement of his own:

Aside from maybe getting Gottlieb out of the legal hot water, this whole epilogue doesn’t really solve anything. It might give Braves fans a better sense of whether or not Freeman was close to a re-signing, but he’s still in Los Angeles, not Atlanta.
