Freddie Freeman rumors could have a big impact on Anthony Rizzo

Anthony Rizzo is considered a solid backup for teams without Freddie Freeman. With Freeman’s free agency in the flow, what does that mean for Rizzo?

For one, it means Rizzo is waiting for a response. For the likes of the Braves, Yankees, Dodgers and Blue Jays – all of which need a first keeper – Rizzo will be a great match. However, all four teams have shown an interest in Freeman, with Rizzo likely to be a backup plan at this stage.

Until the closing process is over, all four teams and the executives who have run them in their dreams are fine. Maybe Freeman is actually willing to give the highest bidder, instead of just using opposing interests to raise the price for the Braves.

Anthony Rizzo Rumors: Freddie Freeman News Affects Him Too

Works by Ken Rosenthal in The Athletic Most recommended earlier this week:

“Our long-held assumption – well, they’ll work it out – no longer applies. The Braves and the Freeman were unsuccessful last spring, last summer, or in November with the door lock problem appearing. They can still work it out, thinking an agreement is still the most logical outcome. But rest assured, both sides are weighing their options. It will come as no surprise that once business resumes, act quickly.”

And so, an age-old assumption is gone.

Expect a quick attack after the lockdown and the aforementioned decision by Rizzo will follow. If Braves can’t re-sign Freemanor the negotiations look tough, perhaps they’ll trade for local product Matt Olson, who now plays for the Oakland Athletics.

That narrows Rizzo’s search. The Yankees, the Dodgers, the Blue Jays or even the Red Sox mean a lot to Rizzo, an All-Star first-rate fighter.

He’ll have a home soon, but don’t expect it to be in the familiar, friendly penthouse north of Chicago.
