Brentford head coach Thomas Frank has confirmed he would like to sign in-form midfielder Christian Eriksen on a new contract at Brentford.
Eriksen scored in Saturday’s surprising 4-1 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. It was his first league goal since suffering cardiac arrest at Euro 2020 for Denmark.
He also scored twice on his return to the Danes during the international break.
Eriksen, 30, signed a short-term deal until the end of the season with Brentford in the January transfer window after reciprocally terminating his contract with Inter Milan due to Series A implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) rules.
He has a short-term contract until the end of the season.
Frank said of his future: “There are many factors that come into play when a footballer decides to change clubs. That’s how it will go with Christian.
“To be fair, I know Christian pretty well and he’s good at just enjoying the moment. And I think he enjoys it even more.
“So we don’t think too much about what’s going to happen in two or three months.
“I’m just really happy that he’s playing for us. It’s no secret that I want him to continue next season.
“I know Christian enjoys his football and really enjoys being back. I know I have to answer these questions by the end of the season, so let’s see what happens.”
Eriksen hopes to feature against West Ham on Sunday April 10.
