UFC’s first pay-per-view of 2022 will take place Saturday night at UFC 270 in Anaheim, California.
The event will be highlighted by a heavyweight title fight between heavyweight champion Fancis Ngannou and interim belt holder Ciryl Gane.
‘Bon Gamin’ is unbeaten in the UFC and won the interim championship against Derrick Lewis this past summer. However, Ngannou is the class of the division until further notice and will look to remind the UFC world why with a win on Saturday.
Here are the odds for this title fight with the help of WynnBET Sportsbook.
Total: 2.5 (Over -105 / Under -115)
Gane is the flavor of the week, but I believe he is a misjudged favorite against the monster that is Francis Ngannou.
While Gane has more recent results, an ending against Lewis that has turned into a title war because of contract issues with Ngannou, ‘The Predator’ has more impressive wins, including the knockout champion Stipe Miocic last year.
Ngannou will present a size advantage that Gane has never seen in an octagon. This will be the first time Gane has a shorter reach than his opponent, meaning ‘Bon Gamin’ will have to move forward and find a way to close the gap. Ngannou has a reach of 83″ while Gane has a reach of 81″, each UFCStats.com
If he stands and unleashes attacks, Ngannou has the strength and durability to finish off the temporary champion in no time. While Gane has dragged skirmishes into the championship rounds, this won’t work given his size disadvantage and the fact that Ngannou has shown an evolving grappling game after defended a Miocic knockdown in his final match.
If Gane tries to grapple or shoot down he could be in a dangerous position, see what happened to Miocic seconds after his TD attempt.
One point I need to keep in mind when betting with Ngannou is that he has a protracted contract negotiation and dispute with Dana White and the UFC. The champ has been discussing a boxing pass with Tyson Fury in recent weeks, so his momentum could be in question as he heads towards a belt fight.
However, I still believe that if the ‘Predator’ can make contact, he will finish off Gane. I can’t afford Ngannou in a fight, I make him a significant favorite.
PICK: Francis Ngannou +130
