Fox Corp. and Verizon agree on multi-year distribution agreement

Fox Corp. on Wednesday secured a multi-year extension of its distribution agreement with Verizon, adding ad-supported streamers Tubi and Fox Weather as part of its offerings through Fios TV.

According to Verizon and Fox, the expanded agreement will see continued distribution of all Fox brands on Fios TV, including Fox News Media, Fox Sports, the Fox broadcast network and local Fox-owned and Fox-operated television stations in markets such as New York , Washington, D.C. and Philly.

In addition, Fox Weather will be added to the Fios TV offering along with the AVOD service Tubi, which will be included in both Fios TV set-top boxes and other platforms.

“Fox is pleased to extend and expand our long-standing relationship with Verizon by adding Fox Weather and Tubi to our industry-leading news, sports and entertainment portfolio available to Verizon subscribers,” Michael Biard, President of Operations and Distribution at Fox Corporation, said.

Unlike traditional cable, Verizon Fios is a bundled Internet, phone, and television service that operates over a fiber optic network. Similar to a live TV streaming service like YouTube TV or fuboTV, Fios TV delivers live TV to customers over the Internet.

Distribution deals between media companies and TV providers have become increasingly complicated and negotiations lengthened in recent years as the streaming wars raged and cable cutters disrupted business models. With the conclusion of a new pact between Fox Corp. and telecom giant Verizon, Fio’s TV customers can rest assured that their favorite Fox brands won’t be leaving the service any time soon.
