Former Red worried about Salah’s contract situation

Former Liverpool player Phil Thompson has admitted that he is concerned about Mo Salah’s contract situation with the Egyptian having yet to agree new terms with the club.

The Red Devils No 11 is the Premier League’s top scorer this season with 15 goals and his current contract expires in the summer of 2023.

“It worries me,” Thompson told Express Sport (via Football 365).

“I just want to hope if Mo loves Liverpool like he says he does, I hope that there is definitely an agreement there for his agent and the football club to say ‘yes, he’s happier with that’. that’.

“He will be close to 31 when his contract expires. If he’s thinking of moving, someone will buy Mo, paying a big salary. He’s not 27, 28 – he’ll be 31.

“So I think hopefully he’ll see his best years still at Liverpool.

“Everybody should try to make it work if everyone is focused on it.

“But I think it has to be done by January, if it’s not done by January, then this is ‘it’s okay, we still have a bit of work to do’ – no.

“If it’s summer, I’ll panic for a person.”

While it would be great if a contract is arranged soon, there is no need to panic, Mo insists he is happy at the club and shows no signs of wanting to leave.

His performances on the pitch show that he loves life at Merseyside and that can continue for long.

All of Europe’s biggest clubs would be interested in the former Roma man if he were to be available but the winger still appears to be in the form of his life.

It feels like he scores every time he plays and hopefully he can find the back of the net tomorrow when we make the trip to Leicester.

Ahead of the trip to King Power, we were second in the table, six points behind Manchester City with a game in hand and Thompson discussed whether we can win more titles this term: “It is looking too far ahead. I certainly won’t go the way of Manchester City and people are praising them, people are saying, ‘they can win four, they can do this, they can do it’.

“As long as we win a trophy or two and push things forward because that’s what Liverpool Football Club should be doing, I’ll be happy. Former Red worried about Salah’s contract situation
