Former Denver Broncos star Demaryius Thomas dies aged 33 [Updated]

Former Denver Broncos star, five-time Pro Bowl player and Super Bowl champion Demaryius Thomas has died aged 33.

Football was played on Thursday night, but in a flash the game was completely meaningless.

As the Steelers-Vikings game continued to descend into eerie chaos, news spread on Twitter that former Denver Broncos star Demaryius Thomas had passed away at the age of 33.

Thomas was only dropped from the NFL roster for two years, after playing for the New York Jets. But Thomas will forever be remembered as a key part of the Denver Broncos Super Cup winning team, and a favorite target for Peyton Manning during his time with the team.

Miles Garrett, an Atlanta-area reporter, as well as KOARadio insider Benjamin Allbright, announced Thursday that Thomas had died suddenly.

TMZ report that the death stemmed from a ‘medical problem’:

Police told us preliminary reports indicate that the death was due to a medical problem. They also tell us there is currently no indication that foul play is involved.

Thomas was the first choice for the Broncos in 2010 after an incredible career at Georgia Tech. His greatness was on display before Manning arrived in Denver, when Thomas helped deliver one of the greatest moments in Broncos history when he overcame the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Wild Card with Tim Tebow as the his defender.

When Manning was signed by the Broncos, Thomas’ career took off to new heights. As Manning’s favorite target, he’s helped break franchise and league records, as well as help return the Super Bowl title to Denver.

However, Thomas’ story goes beyond football. Back in 2015, his mother and grandmother were both pardoned by President Obama and released from prison. For the first time in their lives, Thomas played a game NFL game in front of his mother during the Broncos playoff win over the Steelers in 2016.

After the Manning era ended in Denver, Thomas remained mostly productive, signing up for a 1,000-yard season with Trevor Semian at his quarterback. He was eventually traded to the Houston Texans in a heartbreaking move for fans ahead of the 2017 NFL trade deadline, before ending his career in New York.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available. Former Denver Broncos star Demaryius Thomas dies aged 33 [Updated]
