Former five-star Quinn Ewers will move to Texas, former Ohio State quarterback posted on social media on Sunday night.
Ewers spent a season with the Buckeyes but entered the transfer portal on December 3 and is now closing in on a unique journey to get to this point, even for recruitment standards.
He was ranked as a five-star quarterback, the #1 signal caller in the class of 2022, and was originally committed to Texas in high school. After the Longhorns fired coach Tom Herman, Ewers dropped his commitment and eventually moved to Ohio State.
He was then reclassified into the class of 2021 to enroll a year early at Ohio State, and took advantage of some of the name, image, and likeness trades that had been introduced to him as a high school student. learn. Texas forbids high school prospects from profiting from their name, image, and likability, so Ewers dropped out of high school and joined the Buckeyes in August.
Immediately after joining Ohio State, Ewers signed NIL contract for $1.4 million more than three years with GT Sports Marketing for signature and negotiated by Ewers dealers at Sportsstars and Rubicon. He landed other NIL deals alongside his big deal, including one with a local car dealer.
Ewers hails from Southlake, Texas and plays for Carroll High School, where he throws 4,003 yards, 45 touchdowns and 3 interceptions during the 2019 season. His 2020 season was cut short to just four games, but Ewers still has 1,221 yards past, 15 touchdowns and two interceptions.
Despite entering a year early at Ohio State, he didn’t make it past the Buckeyes this season because redshirt freshman CJ Stroud landed the job starting and finishing as a Heisman Trophy finalist.
Ewers will join Texas with four qualifying years remaining and will enter a situation where he will be able to compete immediately for the job starting with the Longhorns in Year 2 of Steve Sarkisian’s tenure.
Texas has won 5-7 this season, is seventh in the Big 12, and not topped a bad game.
