Forget what you know – after a week we’re engulfed in chaos – The Athletic

In the premiere of the second season of The only NHL power rankings that matter, we were measured and methodical, ranking each team using math and logic. That’s what we expect to happen this season, with a stab in the dark about what could happen if things go right… or wrong. For the most part, it is reasonable, even at 255 you don’t completely agree.
NS NHL, however, is not reasonable. After only 10 days, the league was released.
As for this week’s strength rankings, we’re capturing chaos. Forget all you know about every team. Forget that there are still more than 75 matches on each schedule. The only thing that matters is what has happened since October 12. That’s it. (Well, actually, that’s a lie – we used last week’s ranking as the end point).
Small sample size? Too bad. Don’t count on a team that has won three in a row to have their best striker possible Jeff Skinner? Do not care. But what about the power of the schedule? Does not matter.
We’ll be back to our regular scheduled programming next week, but this week it seems more fun to overreact completely to one week’s hockey results. It may be completely off the mark, but for some teams that have gotten off to a surprisingly strong start, this is essentially their Stanley Cup. Let them have this before things get back to normal next week, okay?
first.
