SF Studios Swedish production banner FLX is developing a thriller film based on Joakim Zander’s novel An Honest Life.
An Honest Life was released in April and is set on a university campus in Lund, southern Sweden. During a violent demonstration, a lost young law student meets a woman who introduces him to her eccentric friends. Her life revolves around radical ideals and lies. When he finally realizes what he’s gotten himself into, it’s already too late to get out.
Filming is slated to begin next fall with top-tier creators whose names will be announced at a later date.
“Joakim Zander elegantly, intelligently and suspensefully weaves a fiendish heist thriller into a classic coming-of-age narrative,” said Anna Anthony, Head of Feature Film at FLX.
“I love that it’s set in and around Lund University: the September light, brick walls covered in Boston ivy, infatuation, betrayal, questions of right and wrong, morality, class and a protagonist bridging the gap between adolescence and adulthood .” added Anton.
Astri von Arbin Ahlander, Managing Director of leading Nordic literary agency Ahlander Agency, said that “after several years of TV series dominance, the pendulum will soon be swinging back towards feature films”. The manager described The Honest Life as “a deeply original and particularly cinematic thriller novel.”
Zander, meanwhile, said he “shares the same vision for this project, both story-wise and visually-wise” with FLX’s Anthony. “It was clear we were incredibly excited to see honest living come to life alongside FLX. My novel couldn’t be in better hands,” added Zander.
FLX credits include “The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window”, “Quicksand”, “Love & Anarchy”, “Solsidan The Movie” and “Comedy Queen”.
