Florida State Football 2022 Season Prediction, Preview, Awards, Bowl Game 2022

Florida State is planning its first winning season in over five years. Is 2022 the year Mike Norvell can turn things around?

The last two years for the Florida State Seminoles haven’t been, well, great. A 3-6 record in the 2020 season and a 5-7 run in 2021. Not the best start for head coach Mike Norvell, who arrived with much fanfare after a successful four-year run in Memphis.

Now the Seminoles are expected to have their first winning season since 2017, the year Jimbo Fisher re-signed late in the season and eventually became head coach of Texas A&M. But can they do that at all?

Florida State Football 2021 Season Recap

where to start

Florida State forced overtime against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in overtime. Still, they lost the game after a 37-yard field goal attempt was poked wide left, allowing Notre Dame to earn the 41-38 win. As if that wasn’t bad enough, the Seminoles had a 17-14 lead against Jacksonville State in the closing seconds but gave up a touchdown in the closing seconds to lose.

The Seminoles have had some big victories, including their rivalry game against the Miami Hurricanes. Their season officially ended in a 24-21 loss to the Florida Gators. A 5-7 record equated to no bowl game appearance for Florida State.

Ontario Wilson, last season’s leading wide receiver, will also return. In 2021, he caught 23 passes for a team rush of 382 yards and five touchdowns.

but will add three newcomers to his starting line-up. They have a new wide receiver in Mycah Pittman, who recorded 38 catches for 547 yards and two touchdowns in his three years in Oregon. There’s another former Ducks player on the list, and that’s running back Trey Benson. There’s also an offensive newcomer, Bless Harris, who began his college career as a player with the Lamar Cardinals.

Florida State Seminoles Defense Preview for the 2022 Season

  • Recurring Starters: DE Derrick McClendon, NT Robert Cooper, DT Fabien Lovett, LB Dennis Briggs Jr., LB Kalen DeLoach, LB Amari Gainer, CB Renardo Green, S Jammie Robinson, S Akeem Dent, CB Omarion Cooper, NB Kevin Knowles II

The Seminoles almost pushed the No. 1 recruit overall in Travis Hunter to their defense. But a late push from Jackson State prompted him to rescind his commitment to Florida State.

When it comes to defense it will be the same. Defensive defender Jammie Robinson is back having had a great statistical season. He totaled 84 tackles, 4 interceptions and 2 forced fumbles, all team-bests.

There’s a new addition to starting defense and that’s linebacker Tatum Bethune, who spent his first three years playing for the UCF Knights. Bethune recorded a total of 108 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 interceptions and 1 forced fumble.

Biggest football game in the state of Florida on schedule for 2022

Of course, the easy pick for the biggest game of the season is against Clemson. But for the Seminoles, they could end their season on a high by beating the Florida Gators for the first time since 2017.

Florida State Football Best Case Scenario

The best possible case for the Seminoles is if they can pull off a win against one of the top ACC teams at Clemson, North Carolina State or Wake Forest. If they can at least do that, they’ll earn a successful season and a spot in the bowl game.

Florida State Football’s worst-case scenario

The past year has shown just how bad things can get for the state of Florida. Losing a “gimme” game to Duquense in the season opener would cause the fan base to lose hope just a week into the 2022 season. Hey, they lost to Jacksonville State on a walk-off touchdown last year. Everything can happen.

If they lose the season opener and against Clemson, NC State or Wake Forest, the season is lost.

Florida State Football 2022 Season Prediction

This is an important season for the Seminoles, and it’s going to be anything but easy. Faced with facing the conference’s top three teams, their rivals at the Miami Hurricanes have been given a boost thanks to the hiring of alum and former Oregon head coach Mario Cristobal.

Although there are games that can be won for the Seminoles like Georgia Tech, Duquense and Syracuse, it looks like they have a 6-6 record ahead of them this season.

Record 2022: 6-6
