First preview cards for Magic: The Gathering’s new D&D crossover

Magic: GatheringThe first crossover of Dungeons & Dragons themed cards was a huge success, becoming one of Wizards of the Coast’s best-selling summer releases of all time. Now the Hasbro subsidiary is up and running again with Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur’s Gate. The new series launched Thursday on Twitch; Here’s what we learned, along with some early preview cards.

When Battle for Baldur’s Gate focus on the Commander format – the popular 100-card multiplayer mode also known as Elder Dragon Highlander (EDH) – it will also be composable. Split dice, debuting with Adventures in the Forgotten Realms, will be back with new sets. For fans of online play, know that Battle for the Baldur Gate will also be a part of Magic: The Gathering – Arena. Details are sparse, but Wizards told Polygon that Arena will include some word cards Battle for the Baldur Gate Works well for one-on-one play. Other cards will be rebalanced specifically for Arena. Wizards will hold a public launch for Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur’s Gate online May 16. Preview cards will appear in many stores between that date and May 20, with Commander deck previews taking place May 23-26. Release weekend advance will be held in stores from June 3-6, with a physical release scheduled for June 10.
