Final Fantasy XIV Masked Carnivale Weekly Bonus Challenge Guide (June 7)

The Masked Carnivale is a series of fun solo boss challenges for the Blue Mage limited job in Final Fantasy XIV. Each week there are three objectives of varying difficulty that are assigned to different battles that, upon completion, earn Poetic Tomestones, Gil, and a ton of Allied award seals. Allied Seals can be used to buy Aetheryte Tickets from your Grand Company, and as such it’s one of the best ways to get free Teleport Tickets each week. This handy guide will tell you exactly how to change up your strategies each week to achieve your goals with little stress or confusion.

Note – Weekly Goals reset every Tuesday at 12:00 PM PT.

All battles will use DPS Ethereal Mimicry unless otherwise noted.

Weekly goal for beginners

  • Battle
  • Completion Requirements
  • Suggested Spells

This is an extremely simple gimmick fight that requires Sticky Tongue and any ranged spell. Ice Sprites do a lot of damage so you have to use the slimes to kill them.

Act 1 – Keep your distance from the Lava Slime and cast a ranged damage spell on it. It will explode and kill the Ice Spirits.

Act 2 – Use Sticky Tongue to move each Lava Slime to the outside of the nearest crate within the Ice Sprite’s line of sight. Once it’s in position, get to a safe distance and cast a ranged spell on it. It will explode and kill the Ice Spirit. Do this for all four goals.

Act 3 – If you get within range of the gladiator knots they will set off a deadly explosion that will kill you unless you are behind the wall. The goal here is to run near the knot as soon as it starts its spell while using Sticky Tongue to get a slime within range, then hide behind a wall until the spell goes off. Do this for all three slimes on one side, then go behind the wall and cast a harmful ranged spell on a slime. The explosions should destroy the node. Do the same on the other side to complete the beginner weekly goal.

Moderate weekly target

  • Battle
  • Completion Requirements
    • Mastery of Water (Use one or more spells with water aspects. Spells with aspects of other elements are not used)
  • Suggested Spells
    • hydro pull
    • water cannon
    • Flying sardine

Mastering the water is the best aiming challenge you can hope for in this battle. The boss is weak to water attacks, so using only this element on the boss is the recommended strategy anyway.

Act 1 – Just spam the boss with any of the attacks listed in the suggested spells, preferably Hydro Pull for the extra potency. The boss will hit you, but it shouldn’t hurt that much. It will periodically envelop a frontal cone called a boulder clap, which must be avoided. Earthen Heart is a circle that appears on the ground and leaves behind fire. You can either interrupt it or get off the telegraph. Obliterate must be interrupted by Flying Sardine. This does not contradict water mastery, since the spell has no element associated with it.

Extended weekly goal

  • Battle
    • #18. Midsummer Night Explosion
  • Completion Requirements
    • Too Fast, Too Furious (overall performance faster than ideal time)
    • Advanced Spellcasting (Only cast rank 4 or 5 spells)
  • Suggested Spells
    • Peripheral Synthesis
    • mustard bomb
    • Surpanakha
    • quasar
    • eruption
    • Shock Blow
    • Dance of Glass
    • nightbloom

The trick to this fight is to use the barrels to deal damage to the Arena Manticore while defeating it with DPS at the same time. You must be ready to switch to a new barrel as soon as the explosion injures the creature since you only have less than 4 minutes and 20 seconds to complete the weekly goal. Strong multi-target damage spells of ranks 4 and 5 (encouraged spells are in the Suggested Spells section) are required to comfortably keep the timer so you can explode barrels while also hurting the bosses. Also, don’t be in the barrel’s AoE circle, as this will hurt you badly.

Act 1 – Move Arena Manticore to a barrel and bait its wind-up swipe animation. When it does, move away and it should hit the barrel, which will explode and damage the boss. Kite it around the arena, do the same with all the barrels, and make sure to only use rank 4 or 5 spells to damage it while kiting. Eruption works well for hitting both a barrel and the Manticore while moving, and switching between Peripheral Synthesis and Mustard Bomb deals significant damage to the boss. Make sure you’re standing near a barrel when the boss is preparing to lunge, as he’ll fly towards you and detonate the barrel. The boss could also telegraph a circle of fireballs below you. This will cause a keg to explode, but you don’t want this to happen with kegs that have the Manticore nearby. So stay close to the creature when fighting it.

Act 2 – The combat is exactly the same as in Act 1, except there are now two of them. The same strategy applies here, and the bosses’ attacks will also hurt each other. Keeping them both close to the barrel explosions can be a little annoying, but if you follow the same strategy as in Act 1, you shouldn’t have to worry about anything else. Try to keep the bosses close together so they hurt each other when they attack.
