Final Fantasy VII is being remade as a trilogy, but between the first two parts there is at least one minor release that fans shouldn’t miss. Intermission, later packaged alongside Remake as Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, introduces the ninja Yuffie to the narrative. She was an optional party member in the original game, so giving her the spotlight in a standalone chapter was a nice touch. Unfortunately, there are some major issues for certain fans who want to play this content on PlayStation 5 now.
Intergrade has been added to PlayStation Plus’ Extra and Premium tiers, allowing subscribers to play the entire pack for free as part of the service’s perks – unless they’ve already downloaded the base game. ResetEra member Ghostcrew created a thread raising awareness of the matter. As they point out, those who already own Final Fantasy VII Remake will not be able to download Intergrade from PlayStation Plus. We can confirm that this is true, and even worse, we have not been able to buy or download Intermission on our own even though we only own the base game.
Needless to say, this is a problem. It’s one thing not being able to download a free game like Intergrade, although it looks bad when that game is being touted as one of the major new additions to the service for July. It’s another when there isn’t even a way Counting Sony for the content at all. Currently, those who cannot play Intergrade or Intermission must turn to other platforms to play this content. It’s available on Steam, but Square Enix should fix this issue as soon as possible.
The second game in the Final Fantasy VII trilogy is called Rebirth and will be released exclusively for PlayStation 5 in Winter 2023. While Remake was entirely set in the city of Midgar, Rebirth presents players with an open world. The debut trailer showed Zack Fair returning in a remake of his own called Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion. Coming to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC this winter via Steam.
