FIFA 23: How the player personality works in career mode

In early August, EA Sports and the FIFA 23 team revealed the new changes that are coming to Career Mode. Arguably the biggest addition to the mode is Player Personality, a new feature that affects a player on and off the pitch and will have a significant impact on attributes. So how will the player personality work? Let’s go through the system, archetypes and upgrading attributes.

The new player personality in FIFA 23 will offer a new way to advance a player’s stats in career mode. According to the EA team, in a Career Mode Deep Dive, every action on and off the pitch affects a player’s player personality and therefore their stats.

The archetypes

The player personality offers three different types: Maverick, Virtuouso and Heartbeat. Here are the general differences between the three:

• Loner: Aggressive in pursuit of goals, individualistic and in search of glory. Traditionally look for a lavish lifestyle.
• Virtuoso: Ambitious and always performance-oriented. Skillful and intelligent, humble and financially focused.
• Heartbeat: The pulse of the team and shows willpower, determination and resilience. Finance and influence are often used for charitable purposes.

This is how you strengthen the player personality

According to the EA team, player personality can be strengthened by playing matches. However, certain individual achievements encourage certain types of archetypes more. For example, an assist will improve the Heartbeat category, while a scoring will improve the Maverick and Virtuoso.

However, other factors also play a role in the development of player personality. For one thing, location is a key factor. Each position will feature a different player personality upgrade format. This means that certain actions improve a forward’s stats compared to a centre-back and vice versa. In addition, the player attributes that are increased “are defined by the distribution of personality points among personalities, and the personality level defines how large that increase is.”

As for activities off the field, purchases, investments and decisions regarding teammates will also feed into player personality development.

There is also a final level of player personality entitled Absolute Personality. This is achieved when a user reaches the final level of player personality. Once that’s done, users can devote themselves to one of the archetypes, place the majority of their points on it, and then grant additional benefits once they reach that absolute level.
