Farewell to Kochie Sunrise: The interview with outgoing host’s wife, Libby, takes an unexpected turn, according to ‘old friend Bruce’

An interview with Kochie’s beloved wife Libby took an unexpected turn during the TV veteran’s latest Sunrise show — when it turned to an old friend.
During a weather feature on the Brekky Central hosted by Sam Mac, Sam spoke to Libby and some of her and Kochie’s grandchildren.

Libby told Sam that last week had been “an emotional time” for the family as Kochie prepared for his departure.
“Last night I said to him, ‘How are you feeling?’ Is this the last time you set your alarm?’ And he’s like, ‘I’m just really tired,'” Libby revealed, sparking laughter from everyone on set. “Life will change a bit for Dave, he will wake up a little later and go to work.”
Sam joked that despite saying he’s retiring, Kochie “still has eight jobs.”
The TV personality then gave Libby and the grandkids a challenge: making Kochie cry.
“Tell us about the man you fell in love with. What about David made you fall in love with him?” the weather presenter asked Kochie’s wife.
“You really embarrassed me. I like his character. He was a bit different from the other boys. I met him when I was only 20,” she revealed.
“Who were the other boys, Lib?” Sam asked cheekily.
“There was only one or two,” she said of other men in her life.
Listening in the studio, Kochie prompted Sam to ask his wife about a man named Bruce.
“That’s not the direction the segment is going!” exclaimed Lib.
“Who is Bruce?” Sam then asked a question.
“Oh my godfather,” Lib sighed.
One of the couple’s grandchildren, Matilda, then chimed in, explaining that Bruce was Lib’s “old friend before she met Poppy.”
“When I met David, that was it. There was nobody else,” Lib said, trying to regain control of the situation.
Sam then asked the children about the things that make their “Poppy” special.
“He is always very nice and always gives us advice and tactics for our sports game and he will always support us and be there,” said one.
“He is very positive and wants us to have the best life possible. He’s got a half full perspective,” added another, bringing tears to Kochie’s eyes.
As the segment came to a close, Kochie brought the conversation back to Bruce, revealing a conversation he had with his future mother-in-law at his and Libby’s engagement party.
“Libby’s mother told me that she still cares about Bruce. We never let her forget that,” laughed Kochie.
Kochie’s final day continues on Channel 7’s ‘Sunrise’ show.
