An image found on the backend of the Xbox online store seems to reveal that Ubisoft is preparing to release an upgrade pass for Game of the Year Far cry 6. That’s… fine, I guess, but it begs the question: which side out there thought it was the best game of 2021 and gave it such an accolade?

Last years Far cry 6 was a good game. I also said that in my review. It’s a solid open-world shooter with some neat ideas, a beautifully detailed tropical island to explore, and some floppy parts that don’t quite work. Hey, it’s a Ubisoft game, the last part is required by law. While I liked it, here we are at kotaku didn’t call it our game of the year or anything, and neither have any other sites. Or so I thought.

As first discovered by data miner Agiornamenti Lumia on Twittera leaked image from Microsoft’s Xbox Store appears to reveal a new upcoming digital upgrade from Far cry 6synchronized the Game of the Year Upgrade Pass. This is probably just a renaming “Ultimate Edition” which may contain some new content but mostly consists of old DLCs and updates all bundled into one big package.

kotaku has contacted Ubisoft about this leaked DLC content.

But whatever, I’m not here to find out what could be in this new, yet unconfirmed GOTY upgrade from Far cry 6. Instead, like others online, I am here to question his name. Serious? Who was calling out there in 2021 Far cry 6 the game of the year? Of course I’m imagining it some Die-hard online fans felt that way, but that doesn’t seem like enough to justify a full GOTY edition or an upgrade or whatever. Were there really websites that felt like this too? Well yes, it turns out. At least two, but I have a few questions for you.

First, on his list of the best games of 2021Gadget and gaming website BGR gave Far cry 6 its top spot. This isn’t quite the same as a game of the year, but it’s the site calling it the best game of 2021, and that’s close enough, especially when so few other outlets have done anything similar. However, the blurb is attached Far cry 6 is a bit strange to call that Distant scream Franchise a “legacy game series” that most people “feel obligated to play.” It then mentions that the latest sequel has a great storyline, “like all the others Games in the Series” and says some might even call it the best entry yet. But it sounds as if BGR is not so sure.

Look around, another site that gave Far cry 6 was his game of the year EFTMa lifestyle website about technology and cars. It has been officially declared Far cry 6 the best game of 2021. Oddly enough, the blog announcing this news begins with the words call of Duty is fantastic. It then veers into a barely related thought about how, when a new one Distant scream game releases, it’s time to “drop everything and play”. What if right at that moment I’m holding a drink like a buffoon, a new one Distant scream game comes out? Can I hold this?

EFTM Writer Trevor Long explains Far cry 6 has a great story that can also be ignored, but he hasn’t even finished it yet and may never finish it. And while I don’t think you have to finish a game to review it or have critical thoughts about it, I do think you should probably finish it before you call it your official game of the year. But hey, you do, Trevor.

Finally I found another side that thought Far cry 6 could be the best game of 2021. It’s called a high school website Storm Media and in a look back at 2021 Far cry 6, the author suggests it might be the best game of the year, but doesn’t commit. I’m sorry, Ubisoft.

So yes, technically by Ubisoft Far cry 6 has received a few official Game Of The Year awards or mentions online. Sure it wasn’t from IGN or GameSpot Or Kotaku or polygon or PC gamer or RPS or VGC or The player or gamerant or game informant or…
