BOSTON (CBS) – A beloved Boston legend has officially entered the Hall of Fame. Fans outside Fenway on Tuesday night said David Ortiz was the gift they kept giving.
“We seem to embrace our players here. And if they take us, they will be immortalized in this town forever,” said Joe Addesa.
“Lots of clutch shots in the playoffs, the World Series. I couldn’t even make it past the top 20 let alone the top 10,” said Darren Kaplan.
Big Papi came back home when he get thrilling news. He is only the fourth Dominican Republic player to be featured.
“He’s from the Dominican Republic, that’s my mother’s hometown. It’s amazing to know someone from a Caribbean island is making it. It was amazing,” said Glorimar Perez proudly.
From the highest to the lowest, David Ortiz celebrated and grieve right here with us. It is his personality that has made him a hall of fame in the heart of Boston.
“I don’t judge people based on their performance on a diamond or a court, iceberg. I base it on who you are as a person and how you act with others. He is a top man. They are appreciating him for what he did on the pitch. I appreciate him for who he was and is,” said Joe Addesa.
“Always remember where he comes from. Never forget the Boston fans and the love he has for the city. He always made sure we were the first. Always come back with a win for us. We definitely appreciate that and congratulate him,” said fan Beatrice Fleurme.
“He embraced this city and we embraced him. That will never go away,” Addesa added.
