Fan-unheard Freddie Mercury song to be released by Queen: ‘A real find’

Queen has released a missing song featuring their late lead singer Freddie Mercury for the first time in more than eight years.

Face It Alone was originally recorded during the British rock band’s 1988 sessions for the album The Miracle, but remained among those that didn’t make it into the final version.

It was later rediscovered when the band’s production and archive team returned to the sessions to work on the forthcoming album reissue.

The single marks the first new song to be released with Mercury since 2014’s Queen Forever album.

This album contained three previously unheard tracks featuring the singer: “Let Me In Your Heart Again”, “Love Kills” and “There Must Be More to Life Than This”.

The former Queen frontman died of complications from AIDS in 1991 at the age of 45.

The classic band – consisting of Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon – formed in 1970.

His hits included Bohemian Rhapsody and We Will Rock You.

About the rediscovered track, May said: “I am happy that our team was able to find this track.

“After all these years, it’s great to hear that all four of us, yes, (former bassist) Deacy are there too, working in the studio on a great song idea that never quite got finished…until now.”

Taylor added, “We kind of forgot about that track, but there it was, this little gem.

“It’s wonderful, a real discovery. It’s a very passionate piece.”

The song’s release comes ahead of the band’s 13th album The Miracle, first released in 1989, on November 18th.

The album, which included the tracks I Want It All, Breakthru and The Invisible Man, reached number one in the UK at the time.

It will now be available in an eight-disc Collector’s Edition box set format.

Included in the expanded set is The Miracle Sessions, a multi-hour CD containing additional previously unreleased recordings, including six unreleased songs.

It also includes the band’s spoken word exchanges at the London and Montreux studios, giving a revealing look at the creative process of the four members and their personal relationships.

The Queen’s The Miracle Collector’s Edition will be available on November 18th.
