Once again a celebrity gets preferential treatment.
An appeals court ordered Jussie Smollett’s release on Wednesday pending an appeal of his conviction.
The ruling comes after a Cook County judge sentenced Smollett last week and began immediately serving 150 days in jail on a disorderly charge of lying to police. Smollet was also sentenced to 30 months of probation, ordered to pay $120,126 in restitution and $25,000 in fines.
The appeals court said Smollett could be released after posting a $150,000 personal recognition bond.
In 2019, Smollett perjured that two ‘white men’ ambushed him at 2am in 20-degree weather in downtown Chicago while shouting “This is MAGA country!”
The ‘Empire’ actor said assailants poured bleach on him and put a noose around his neck while berating him with racist and homophobic slurs. In fact, and according to their testimony, the two Nigerian brothers said Smollett paid them more than $3,000 to help him get rid of the hateful prankster “MAGA Country.”

Smollett’s attorneys have argued that he will have completed his sentence by the time the appeals process is complete and that Smollett could be in physical danger if he remains locked up in the Cook County Jail.
The court’s decision marks the latest chapter in a bizarre story that began in January 2019 when Smollett, black and gay, reported to Chicago police that he was the victim of a crime racist and homophobic attacks.
The hunt for the attackers quickly turned into an investigation into Smollett himself and his arrest on allegations that he staged the attack and lied to police about it.
The investigation revealed that Smollett paid two men he knew from work on the TV show “Empire” to stage the attack.
Smollett, the wealthy, privileged actor, maintained his chastity throughout the trial. During sentencing, he shouted at the judge that he was innocent, warned the judge that he did not commit suicide and that if he died in custody it would be someone else, not him, who will take his life.
So let me ask you a question.
What would happen to me, as a white American, if I tried to stage and execute a fake hate hoax in a conservative city in the United States?
I paid two of my white friends to stage a fake attack that took place at 2 a.m., then I informed the police that two black Joe Biden supporters who happened to be driving , recognized me, got out of their car, shouted racist terms, then threw bleach at me.
After a trial with insurmountable evidence, I was convicted.
How likely is it to happen in less than a week?
The odds are almost zero.
Instead, I will be forced to stay in prison. After the appeal failed, it should have been dropped, as my time was served.
