Fallen Order results in another loaded month for PS Plus

Respawn’s excellent action-adventure adaptation Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order continues another loaded month of free games for the cheapest tier of Sony’s PlayStation Plus subscription service. This is great news for anyone who has yet to finish it ahead of time Jedi: Survivorstarts in March. It’s less good news for anyone who recently paid for the acclaimed blockbuster of 2019 during the recent string of holiday sales.

As is so often the case at this time of year Jedi: Fallen Order and a variety of other well-known games were recently heavily discounted for Black Friday and Christmas. Normally $50, it was reduced in stores last month and is currently only $7 on PSN, Xbox and Steam. The game is more than worth owning at this price point, so now having it for free on PS Plus isn’t the biggest deal. But the same thing happened in December as well with the Mass Effect Legendary Edition, another standout PS Plus drop that more than a few people probably just bought on Black Friday.

Still, January 2023 continues the subscription service’s recent momentum with another full list. In addition to Jedi: Fallen Order, Fallout 76 and axiom edge 2 will also be freebies for paying subscribers. During Fallout 76 probably should have went free-to-play a long time agothere’s plenty there to explore if you’ve ever been pathologically curious about the game after its disastrous launch. axiom edge 2on the other hand, is a fantastic, if rather esoteric, sequel to the cult hit indie Metroidvania.

The impressive lineup shows that Sony doesn’t take PS Plus subscribers for granted, especially as it continues to lose them after complicating the subscription program with pricier tiers that offer Netflix-style on-demand game libraries, streaming and access to (a very small selection of) PlayStation classics. At the same time, it’s worth noting if you’re a Game Pass subscriber Fallout 76 and Jedi: Fallen There have also been orders there for some time.
