Fall TV Previews: The Most Anticipated New Shows of 2022

Even as networks and streamers have begun to hold back some of their biggest series for spring — in a bid for Emmy awards — fall TV still matters. The next few months are packed with high-profile premieres — so much so that at one point, before we scaled it back, there were more than 60 shows on this list. (It might have been more than 70 – or 80?!? – but who wants to go back and count?)
The point is: there are a lot of brand new TV series headlined — no, carts! – our way through the rest of the year.
We’ve already witnessed the premiere of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power on Amazon Prime Video, which (according to Amazon) attracted 25 million viewers from around the world in its first 24 hours – an electrifying start for the streamer’s new franchise . And that was just the beginning of the so-called “fall” – despite the fact that it’s still summer and 100 degrees outside – a rush of new shows. With the ongoing Peak TV battle for audience attention being waged between streaming services, cable channels and broadcast networks, it absolutely is the highestthis list is an attempt to help viewers make informed choices.
We’d also like to highlight the shows that are coming soon but aren’t publicly dated September 8th and are therefore not included here. Netflix’s Wednesday dates have not yet been announced, nor do we know when the Ryan Murphy series Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story and The Watcher – both expected in 2022 – could premiere. And the streamer has yet to reveal when fans can watch The Witcher: Blood Origin, the prequel to the Witcher world, starring likely Oscar nominee Michelle Yeoh.
Prime Video also has a number of originals premiering this fall in addition to The Rings of Power, including the William Gibson adaptation The Peripheral, which is the first series created by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy as part of their deal with Amazon represents – the company just announced that it will premiere on October 21st. Also of note is that Paramount+ will soon be setting dates for 1923, another Taylor Sheridan-directed Yellowstone prequel, starring Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford, as well as Wolf Pack by Teen Wolf creator Jeff Davis and starring Sarah Michelle Gellar. Certainly there are many shows that we haven’t even mentioned here; please forgive us
But enough of this hawking! Without further ado, here are 31 of the most anticipated new shows premiering in the next few months.
