The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have decided to join Corey Seager, although bases are loaded and people on Twitter have some thoughts on the matter.
When taking on the Texas Rangers in Arlington, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim made an incredibly interesting choice. With the bases loaded early in the game, the Angels decided to intentionally lead Corey Seager on foot.
As the Bally Sports Southwest tweet put it, the Angels are treating Seager like he’s Barry Bonds.
It was absolutely a decision to run while facing Seager. In fact, Joa Maddon’s decision to give Seager the pass marked the first time a manager ordered a deliberate walk with the bases in a game they’d been following since 1881, when Buffalo Bisons manager Jim O’Rourke called it did.
Maddon just felt that leading Seager on foot was better than risking getting hit and running into two or more. After all, one is less than two-four.
Joa Maddon’s decision to order a deliberate walk with loaded bases had stunned Twitter
The Angels, often criticized by fans across MLB for never winning at a high level despite having two truly great players in Mike Tourt and Shohei Ohtani, are once again facing a bevy of criticism.
The situation is definitely something that has caught people’s attention. It’s an odd choice and it’s a choice that people don’t really want to make.
Giving up a run like this isn’t going to make many Angels fans too excited about their team.
It was an odd decision by the Angels, but it might not ultimately matter in this game. Because the Angels have taken the lead and Maddon might have the last laugh.
