Top Canadian Ice Hockey Left Wing Jonathan Huberdeau signed an eight-year, $84 million ($10.5 million average annual value) contract extension with the Calgary Flames on Thursday, beginning with the 2023-24 season.
Huberdeau, 29, was previously traded from the Florida Panthers for the Ottawa-born defenseman on July 22 MacKenzie Weegarand forward perspective Cole Swallows. The deal also included a conditional first-round pick in the 2025 NHL draft for the forward Matthew Tkachuk and a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2025 draft.

He added: “A [heck] of a year for me, I can’t ask for more. I played well. I was consistent and I was a good leader. But of course I just learned so much in the playoffs. I didn’t play my best hockey, but I think of course it’s always more difficult in the playoffs.”

“Huberdeau is one of the best strikers in the league”
The Saint Jerome native, Huberdeau, who could have become an unrestricted free agent by the end of this season, had a career-high 115 points (30 goals, 85 assists) in 80 games for the Panthers last season in the National Hockey League.
“We are pleased to extend Jonathan to Calgary long-term,” said Flames CEO Brad Treliving. “He’s an elite player, one of the best forwards in the league who makes the players around him better. We look forward to welcoming Jonathan to our community and his contribution to our team’s success.”
