Ex-DICE alumni have founded a new studio focused on developing a cooperative online roleplaying game for small populations

After years of work on the Star Wars Battlefront and fought games, a small team led by former DICE directors and with several former DICE employees, has decided to go it alone and start an indie studio trying to create an online role-playing game aimed at small communities focused by players who have their own shares experiences.
Wayfinder Studios, founded in 2020 by Dennis Brännvall and his partner Fia Tjernberg, is making a complete 180 degree shift away from AAA FPS development and into RPG territory, using their time together to play tabletop on their days off -Play games.
Gameplay for this new persistent online roleplaying game involves small groups of friends no larger than one Minecraft or Walheim Servers experience a co-op RPG adventure their own way, without repeating tabletop rules, mechanics, and dice rolls. The studio founders also confirm that their game will be an Original IP, anticipate it will likely be available for PC Early Access first, and raise hopes for a later console and PC release with possible cross- Play between both platforms.
“We want to make games where you feel like you have your own version of our fictional universe within your small community that you enjoy playing,” says Brännvall. “[Two groups] might buy the same D&D adventure, but the nature of one group versus the other means the experience will be different.”
It’s worth pointing out that this online title reads like it’s in the very early stages of prototyping and brainstorming — it doesn’t even have a working title yet — but the heads of this new indie studio are confident that they can use their shared love for RPG games, their experience, with the passionate online communities of battlefront and battlefieldand a healthy work ethic into something new for our part of the gaming world.
