New information has emerged regarding the altercation between Joc Pederson and Tommy Pham prior to the May 27 San Francisco Giants-Cincinnati Reds game.

Word broke ahead of the May 27 opening game of the San Francisco Giants-Cincinnati Reds weekend series that such a thing existed an altercation between Joc Pederson and Tommy Pham during punch training. The incident happened in the outfield and both teams had to be separated.

Giants manager Gabe Kapler did not comment on the events as they investigated what happened.

There is now new information as to what prompted Pham to beat Pederson ahead of their Friday night matchup. And it was – fantasy football?

C. Trent Rosecrans and Andrew Baggarly of the athlete were the first to break the news that Pham slapped Pederson in the face during audition. Multiple sources told the outlet that the beef between the two stemmed from “a disagreement the two had over group text for a fantasy football league that includes players from multiple teams.”

Pham was pulled from the lineup before the start of the game as the outfielder agreed to sit pending the results of an investigation by MLB. Rosecrans and Baggarly report that the Giants actually asked Pham out of the game, which the Reds refused until it was just before the first pitch.

Pham’s last-minute replacement was Albert Almora Jr.

We’ll likely learn more about the situation from the players themselves or after the league’s investigation into the matter is complete.
