Everything Everywhere at Once expands to 2,200 screens nationwide

Pack your fanny pack, hide your woodland creatures, pay your taxes accurately (not reallyreally pay your taxes… they’re due Monday) and then head to your local multiplex because the critically acclaimed multiverse hit Everything everywhere at once is available on almost twice as many screens this weekend for your viewing pleasure.

After a limited run in major cities (only 38 theaters two weeks ago), the film expanded to 1,250 screens nationwide last weekend. But the massive upscaling hasn’t diluted box office earnings, posting the second-highest grossing per screen of the week. This means that A24 has almost doubled Everything everywhere at onceRange of 2,200 screens.

The mind-boggling multiverse action comedy was a triumph of old-school word-of-mouth hype. It is a conceptually strong original film starring a 59-year-old Asian woman (Michelle Yeoh) and written and directed by a team of guys (Danielsalso known Daniel Kun and Daniel Scheinert), whose only previous film was essentially a 97-minute fart joke starring Daniel Radcliffe‘s corpse (Swiss army man). That’s not exactly the model for success in the modern film industry. But here’s the catch – everyone everywhere seems to love this film and enthusiastically sings its praises to friends and family.

Everything everywhere at once has a critic rating of 97 percent Rotten tomatoes (93 percent audience rating), an 8.9 rating IMDBand 58 percent of film nerds letterboxd Users rated it as a 5 star movie (only 8 percent of users rated it under 4 stars). It’s the definition of a crowd pleaser, and you don’t need a third googly eye to see why.

The film is a hyperkinetic feast for the senses as the everyday life of Evelyn Wang (Yeoh) is turned upside down as dimensional barriers are breached. She begins to experience the branching paths of other versions of herself in order to stop a powerful dimension-destroying force. Without spoiling too much, the action-packed antics involve everything from her worldly husband (brilliantly played by Ke Huy Quanfrom which you may recognize data The Goonies and short round off Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom) suddenly transforms into a bolder version of himself, odd digits, bagels, Jamie Lee Curtis Flying through walls, rocks, a benihana, a furry flail, and so, so, so much more. The fact that this package is somehow coherently intertwined with great fight scenes, wall to wall laughs and emotionally touching family drama is truly a marvel.

To herald the film’s continued expansion into new markets, Kwan shared an adorable clip from the first time the crew showed Yeoh the iconic, absurdly over-the-top music video for DJ Snake and Lil Jon’s “Turn Down for What,” which Daniels directed led . Kwan also mentioned that the UK release dates are coming soon.
