Escape from Tarkov patch 0.13.02 is coming tomorrow and aims to fix audio, scav difficulties and other issues

Escape from Tarkov is currently in a difficult position since patch 0.13. The updated audio system is broken, AI scavs are basically aimbots, weapon handling was in the box, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. The community is clamoring for Battlestate Games (BSG) to provide an update, and tomorrow, with Patch 0.13.02, there is hope. ESR has already dealt with the handling of weapons in a series of hotfixes today, but they announced that the patch will go live tomorrow morning at 1:00am EST.

The Tarkov community is no stranger to pre-clear issues (think a full-gear season with progress reset), but this time has been particularly tough. The big update came with the long-awaited Streets of Tarkov map, but disconnects, massive performance and latency issues, and long queues plagued its release. As these began to settle, players began to see the other issues in greater contrast.

The audio issues were the easiest to feel. Tarkov switched to Oculus Audio from a system called Steam Audio, and it didn’t take long for him to realize that it was now impossible to tell where someone was by the sound of their footsteps, gunshots, or other loud action. One could only tell that one or more people were nearby, but not in which direction or how far away.

Scavs, the game’s NPC faction that fills out many of the maps, are intended to represent occasional threats in large numbers or as a means of revealing player locations. However, they’ve been aimbots for months, so much so that many players refuse to even engage with them.

There are also widespread performance issues with crashes, disconnects, an apparent memory leak causing framerates to drop after just a few raids, and the recently added DLSS functionality does essentially nothing.

BSG acknowledged almost all of these issues in a previous Twitter thread on January 19th.

No timeline for these updates has been provided at this time and there is no information on how big Patch 0.13.02 will be or how much it will address, but hopefully Tarkov will be all the better for it once it is released.
