Ennis expects to fight 2-3 times, win world championship in 2022: ‘No more games, I don’t play’

Jaron Ennis hopes this is the year he finally breaks down the barrier separating him from weight class supremacy.

The 24-year-old heavyweight from Philadelphia will have a breakthrough in 2021 that will see him beat longtime veterans Sergey Lipinets and Thomas Dulorme in impressive style. Those performances made the boxing world celebrate the name ‘Boots’ along with former welterweight champions Terence Crawford (WBO) and Errol Spence Jr. (WBC / IBF).

It’s no surprise that Ennis himself (28-0.26 KOs) thinks it’s time for him to hit the ring at his best.

“This is the year for me to take over,” Ennis told FightHype.com. “As I said before, I hope to win at least one belt this year and then the next. Bigger and better.”

Ennis is expected to fight multiple times this year, depending on the magnitude of the matches. He will enter training camp at the end of January, he said.

“Honestly, maybe two or three games, but if we can get two big skirmishes that would be great,” Ennis said. “I have to be busy.”

Well aware of the sport’s crippling politics, Ennis believes he can overcome the business diary as long as he continues to shine inside the ring. After a long battle with subordinates and through an advertising lawsuit, Ennis is trying to shrink into the upper echelons of the boxing food chain.

“They couldn’t keep putting me aside,” Ennis said of the champions in his division. “I will make my statement in this boxing match in the heavyweight division. I will start this year”.

He added, “I will be world champion this year. Don’t play anymore, I don’t play anymore. I’m here to take over the division. ”

Conquering the 147 pound weight class is just the beginning. Gambling Ennis envisioned himself as world champion in three divisions at some point.

“Tryna was the undisputed welterweight world champion, and then did the same thing at 154 then 160,” Ennis said. “It’s the beginning right here.”
