Family and friends from across Australia and the UK flew in for a private service on Thursday to commemorate the mother-of-two.
The 41-year-old was fatally stabbed in her own home on Boxing Day, allegedly by two teenage intruders.
Lovell died around 11.30pm on December 26 while she and her husband, 43, were defending their home in North Lakes, north of Brisbane.
Lee Lovell sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Liz Jones read a statement on behalf of Lee Lovell and her extended family, who continue to live in agony after the incident.
“Today we will celebrate Emma’s life with our family and close friends, but it’s a day none of us can believe anymore,” he wrote.
“It’s been over two weeks since Emma was taken from us. The pain hasn’t subsided, the sense of desperation is still there, and the hope we awaken from this nightmare of finding her still with us is held tight.
“It’s just too difficult to talk about in detail, we feel empty.
“It’s a cruel world that a person as innocent, loving and gentle as Emma lost her life protecting her family in their own home.
“Unfortunately, the reality is that her life was taken and we were condemned to a broken future and a life of pain.”
Lee Lovell said the family is praying “that those responsible be prevented from further destroying lives and that due justice is meted out to Emma.”
“Emma has been a positive and caring member of society throughout her life and we want to ensure her memory is linked to positive change, not just a tragic event,” he said.
Lee Lovell thanked everyone, especially members of the North Lakes community, for the love and support they have received following Emma Lovell’s death.
She is survived by her husband and their two daughters.
The two teenagers accused of her murder, both aged 17, remain in custody and will stand trial again on January 16.
Queensland’s juvenile justice system is once again in question
