Back in November, we mentioned the release Frontier Developments Annual Investor Report, this does not bode well for Dangerous elite. Readers will recall that the game’s Odyssey expansion was a bit messy, already received poorly, and then indefinitely delayed on console like Frontier tried to develop the PC version. As Frontier explained to investors, the “overall reception” for the expansion was “disappointing,” thus affecting revenue around the launch.
Well, this week Frontier released newer interim reports, which show net loss half a year more than half a year but said it was “[w]will be positioned for an exciting 2022. “The company said Elite’s 2021 has generally been “tough” and reiterates the “disappointing” launch of Odyssey, though it now claims to have a “resurgence” in “player sentiment” in the following months.
“Elite Dangerous has experienced a difficult 2021 calendar following the disappointing launch of the major Odyssey expansion in May 2021. We continue to support the game and our passionate players with new releases. The update evolved and as a result we’ve noticed a shift in player sentiment.”
Our own Dangerous elite fluent poke your nose into Odyssey’s state again just before the holiday to recap those “developmental updates”, of which there were eight at the time; his impression is the game is still in a pretty rough shape. “There were a few updates that seemed to make things worse, but for now everything seems… fine,” Chris reports, adding that he feels a bit of buyer remorse. “[F]From a technical point of view, I think Odyssey is doing a great job, but I also don’t think it’s really going a big corner here. […] None of that really worked to circumvent some of Odyssey’s larger problems. “
