Elite Dangerous delays Update 15 and “Major Feature Overhaul” and reopens console broadcasts in April

I’m afraid that while the latest elite dangerous seemingly intended to draw players into the loop of the game’s current development, missive has left many players even more confused as to the state of the game.

For starters, Frontier says Update 15, which will “build on the narrative and unlock the next major phase of the Thargoid War,” has been pushed back to May.

Players were also expecting a “major feature overhaul” in April. What was the major feature overhaul? No idea, but Frontier previously promised it would come in April. Now it’s not; It’s been delayed until at least late 2023 and likely well beyond, as they won’t even be talking about it (and maybe not even started?) until the end of this year, although, as players point out, it’s hard to be excited or disappointed when no one knows what the heck is (however, the rumor is it’s tech).

“Last year we announced a major update that would overhaul a long-standing feature. This is still under investigation, however a number of changes (not least the Thargoid War itself) have required our attention as a priority. We will share details of this investigation and our plans later this year.”

Frontier also tells players that it is shutting down applications for player-created factions and says its “focus now is on examining how upcoming systems will allow each player and group of players to have a meaningful impact on the landscape.” of the galaxy”. In addition, the studio is warning of a switch to Steam that will make the live version of the game the default version and not the legacy version (although legacy will still exist).

There’s a bit of good news here, that Frontier is promising to finally reopen console transfers to PC in April (after console development for the game ended last year). “We’re pleased to report that this is a far more complete process than we anticipated,” the studio says. “We look forward to more console commanders joining us on PC, especially to enjoy the features of Odyssey.”
