Karian Retribution is an Ash of War ability that, when used on small and medium shields, allows you to parry enemy spells and gain three floating daggers of your own, which then auto-target the enemy after a short amount of time. At least that’s how it is target work.

Actually smart elden ring Players use the skill to parry their own spells, either summoned normally or used via consumables such as Glintstone Scraps. This gives them an easily spammable attack that scales with the shield’s upgrade level to deal terrifying damage to normal mobs, bosses, and other tainted alike.

Even more chilling is the fact that Carian Retaliation appears to be wiretapped during online play. While players can see opponents using the skill and the daggers it spawns, the subsequent attack is invisible, making it very difficult to avoid even if you know what to expect.

A fast Search of elden ring subreddit shows a community in turmoil with many players demanding that Carian Retaliation be fixed and/or nerfed by the developers. And since FromSoftware has been removed, a similar self-activation technique in the game latest 1.03 patchit is not far-fetched to assume that these calls will eventually be answered.

In any case, Carian Retaliation is something that people will have to deal with for now. The next time you’re online and see an attacking player coming your way with a trio of magical knives overhead, you might want to reconsider dress up as an NPC until they get bored and leave.
