Elden Ring Update 1.06 Patch Notes – Advanced Summoning, White Mask Varre Quest, and more

About half a year has passed since the start of Elden Ring. During that time, we’ve seen the game climb the sales charts as countless players leveled up to become the new Elden Lord. We’ve also seen a handful of patches that make major adjustments to the game, and now a new one has come out.

FromSoftware has released Elden Ring Update 1.06, which makes significant changes to summoning. Rather than simply dropping your summoning mark under your feet like other Souls games, Elden Ring now lets you place multiple summoning marks on the map via a menu. This is a big quality of life change that should make it easier to access all of the game’s PvP invasion locations and co-op boss fights. With that in mind, you can’t place a summoning mark in Mohgwyn Palace (where you’ll find Mohg, Lord of Blood) from afar.

Similarly, update 1.06 makes changes to White-Mask Varre’s quest. Invasion battles against other players or NPCs was the method before, but “a new way of advancing” the quest has been implemented. In typical FromSoftware fashion, the details of this new quest path are not given here.

Additional Items

  • Added the function of sending summoning tokens to summoning pools in multiple areas, including remote areas.
    • Using this feature to send a co-op mark to remote areas will exclude summoning pools in Mohgwyn Palace
  • Added function to invade a larger area, including remote areas
  • Added a new way to advance the White Mask Varre questline other than participating in the multiplayer invasion by defeating a new NPC

balance changes

  • The following customizations have been added to Greatsword, Curved Greatsword, and Greathammers:
    • Reduced the time it takes before rolling after an attack is possible (jump attack, two-weapon attack, and attacks while mounted are not included)
    • Increased the movement speed of strong attacks and charge attacks (does not include mounted attacks)
  • Guard counter movement speed increased
  • Increased the attack speed of great axes and reduced the time it takes for them to be able to roll after an attack (jump attack, two-weapon attack, and mounted attacks not included).
  • Increased roll distance when the player has a light gear load.
  • Cipher Pata’s Unblockable Blade weapon skill hitbox has been increased.
  • The Ash of War Glintstone Pebble and Glintstone Dart projectiles have had their range increased while their damage and stagger power have been reduced
  • Ash of War “Bloodhound Step” travel distance and invincibility frames have been reduced while adding the following changes:
    • Reduced performance with continuous operation
    • Increased range with light equipment
  • Shortened the activation interval when using the Quick Step skill consecutively, increasing the ability to circle the enemy when targeted and added the following changes:
    • Reduced performance with continuous operation
    • Increased range with light equipment
  • Decreased damage and bleed buildup of the Pile of Corpses weapon skill when hit by the blood attack. When hit with the blade, the damage is reduced only slightly
  • Decreased the tracking ability of the Stars of Ruin spell

Troubleshooting

  • Fixed a bug that caused some of “Lucerne’s” attacks not to pierce the enemy’s guard
  • Fixed a bug that made it harder for a two-handed jump attack with Bloodhound’s Fang to break enemy’s stance
  • Fixed a bug that caused the effects of Resolve and Royal Knight’s Resolve to disappear after using the Parry skill with a dagger
  • Fixed a bug that caused additional effects of spells, weapon skills, and items to not be applied correctly when double-wielding an axe and greataxe
  • Fixed a bug that made it harder to resist the enemy’s attack after using the Sentry Counter when two-handed a halberd
  • Fixed a bug that caused some weapons’ physical attack affinity to differ from the affinity stated in the description.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the player to be more easily noticed by the enemy when wearing “Deathbed Dress” even when crouching
  • Fixed a bug that caused a flail charge to damage a friendly character while wearing Deathbed Dress.
  • Fixed a bug that caused HP to regenerate when switching your gear to a specific armor type
  • Fixed a bug where the effect added to the weapon when using “Mist of Slumber” was lost if the player received an attack
  • Fixed a bug that caused the playable character’s movement to become unstable when hitting certain enemies with the Ghostflame Ignition skill.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented the player from using the follow-up attack of the skill “The Black Flame of the Queen” when performing the skill with insufficient FP
  • Fixed a bug with the Zamor Ice Storm weapon skill that allowed players to resist enemy attacks more easily when using the skill with insufficient FP
  • Fixed a bug that caused the effect of spells and items added to the right armament to appear when using certain weapon skills with the left hand.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the FP consumption description of certain weapon skills to differ from the actual FP cost
  • Fixed a bug that allowed Rock Blaster not to consume FP when used with a staff in the left hand and no weapon in the right hand
  • Fixed a bug that caused the charged version of Black Flame Ritual to consume the same amount of stamina as the normal version
  • Fixed a bug that caused the player to receive less HP regeneration from incantations and items other than Flask of Crimson Tears when the effect of Malenia’s Greater Rune was activated.
  • Fixed a bug that caused Opaline Hardtear not to boost physical damage negation
  • Fixed a bug that prevented the player from jumping in the air while driving under certain conditions
  • Fixed a bug that allowed jump attacks with colossal weapons to hit twice in a row while mounted
  • Fixed a bug that caused some characters to appear more than once in the summoning pool
  • Fixed a bug that caused the attack effect of some weapon skills to persist under certain circumstances
  • Fixed a bug that sometimes caused severe performance issues with Ordina, Liturgical City under certain circumstances
  • Fixed a bug that prevented the player from picking up dropped runes on death under certain circumstances
  • Fixed a bug that allowed users to reach certain inaccessible areas in multiplayer
  • Fixed a bug that caused the multiplayer area to have a different border than expected
  • Fixed a bug that caused some enemies to have incorrect graphics and behaviors.

Miscellaneous

  • Added “ERROR” text to unauthorized items
    • In the 1.04 update file, we fixed a bug that allowed players to give unauthorized items that are not obtainable in-game to other players
    • After this update file is distributed, possession and use of these unauthorized items will result in a warning or penalty after a specified period of time.
