Soulsborne games have long inspired speed players to find new, innovative ways to beat them as quickly as possible. Elden Ring is no exception and speed runners have been finding faster and faster ways to win. Streamer Distortion2 is one such runner, who has posted to YouTube what appears to be a sub-19 minute run of the massive and difficult game.
This is any % run, meaning glitches and other tricks are fair play. The 18:57 run was implemented on the game’s old 1.02 patch that allowed the “use of force escape and the ‘lock-pull’ glitch,” Distortion2 wrote in the YouTube video’s comments section. (This includes, for example, “Volcano Warp” which allows the player to zip to Volcano Manor, a post-game location.)
Dist Distortion2 uses a combination of mining and sheer skill in their run. They jump off the cliff edge to their death, before moving on to other locations. Once there, they traverse ledges and shortcuts using the pro platform, as well as wade through the crowds to loot specific items and get upgrades. Before this new record, it took runners 15 hours of trying and “countless unsuccessful runs,” Distortion2 wrote in the comments, to finally reach the record.
Since the game was released, runners have found new ways to beat the game in record time. Just two weeks ago, Distortion2 posted a 30-minute speedrun. The game has only been out for a little over a month – many more speed types are definitely not out yet.
