Elden Ring nerfs overwhelms builds like Mimic Tear, fans sad

After almost three weeks with the game, elden ring Players had found some extremely effective ways to break it using it OP builds to smash challenging bosses like Malenia as well as other players in PVP invasions. However, FromSoft took note and weakened some of the most popular builds in a massive 1.03 patch that went live overnight. Now players must find replacements for Strats based on Mimic Tear, Hoarfrost Stomp, and other previously groundbreaking items and abilities.

Mimic Tear was by far the most effective. A Spirit Ash Summon found in elden ring‘s Eternal City allows players to summon an exact replica of themselves to fight at their side. Because it copied a player’s exact build but was AI controlled, players could equip their strongest gear, use the summon, and then revert to their preferred gear while the mimics then raged in front of them, distracting the bosses. It became a popular technique for defeating most of the game’s bosses, including one of its toughest, Malenia, Blade of Miquella.

However, after the last patch, the damage of the Mimic Tear summon has been greatly reduced. A player on the elden ring underreddit who tested it The nerf was estimated to be around 50%. At the same time, they said the facial expressions played a little smarter and evaded more. But just spamming powerful spells over and over again is definitely less effective.

Hoarfrost Stomp was another favorite. The melee skill near Liurnia of the Lakes had both high damage per second and area damage. Repeated use would also inflict Frost on enemies. It was an all-in-one crowd control machine, great for farming enemy spawns and destroying other players in invasions. Last night’s patch seemingly reduced his damage by half and increased cast time. “I literally got it minutes before closing and applying the patch,” he wrote a player. “I couldn’t even use it. Still ruining people in PvP, but not like I made it right yesterday.”

Luckily, the patch fixed a unique exploit that players were using to ruin PvP. The Deathblight build combined the Eclipse Shotel weapon with the Fire’s Deadly Sin summon to quickly build up Death Sickness in enemy players, sometimes trapping them in repeating backstab animations. the elden ring community was divided whether it was a bug or a legitimate part of the game, but it is now no more. Some PvP players, unaware that the exploit was patched, still attempted to use it, only to be quickly trimmed if it doesn’t work.

Night Sword and Flame was another build some are considered broken. The weapon’s Night-and-Flame Stance ability, located in Caria Manor, allowed players to track an attack with a Comet Azur hex to deal a lot of ranged damage. It could crush unsuspecting PvP players, but was also easily countered by those who knew what they were doing. In PvE, on the other hand, it was another OP ability that players had fun with. The latest patch it annoyed me anyway, but. The Moonveil Katana wasn’t mentioned at all in the patch notes, but apparently it was Stealth patched to lengthen the combat animation.

This is where it becomes difficult to make sweeping changes to a game that some players treat primarily as an offline single-player experience. “I literally got the Sword of Night and Flame last night elden ring, as I couldn’t find a weapon I liked,” one gamer wrote on Twitter. “I put *every resource I had* into it since I heard it was good, and then I was told to update my game. It turns out the update weakened it into the ground.”

While some of patch 1.03 added new content or fixed existing broken quests, in many cases the game was rebalanced in a way you’d expect someone to cover a live service title. Whether or not the tweaks themselves are good, players will definitely have to grapple with them, assuming FromSoftware has further changes in mind. For now, some players are getting by the only way they know how: desperately searching for the next OP builds to exploit it.
