Ekow Essuman renews agreement with Frank Warren, aiming for a strong 2022

THE BRITISH WELTERWEIGHT champion Ekow Essuman has signed a new three-year contract to continue his promotional affiliation with Frank Warren and Queensberry.

Ekow, 32, a 16-0 record holder with seven KOs, had three fights under his previous agreement, also won the IBF European title alongside the Commonwealth belt in just over a year. five.

So it’s been a fruitful time for the Nottingham man known as ‘The Engine’, who won the British and Commonwealth title from Chris Jenkins last July and secured defended against Danny Ball previously undefeated in October. Cedrick Peynaud was defeated in September 2020 for the European IBF title.

“I’m happy to sign because I know that in the next three years I will be pushed up and promoted,” the former Team GB product reacted. “I’m really excited because I know Frank is one of those pushers that when he’s behind you, can really lift you up the leaderboard.

“You need to keep an eye on him and I did it the right way. Basically everyone knows what I am right now.”

Ekow agrees that, over the course of the past year and a half, he has started on polishing his potential rubber and proving himself to be a real threat in the division where domestic contenders no queue to fight.

“The first game against Peynaud was the warm-up to everything and I knew I had to prove myself after that. I wanted a statement performance but the rusty ring played a small part in that. Confronting Chris Jenkins, I did it and Danny Ball performance is the icing on the cake.

“I’ve always told people that I just need the right opponents to bring different sides to my boxing and from now on everyone can expect exciting fights.

“My next match will be the IBF defense because, after the last one, it’s very difficult to find an opponent for England’s next defense without anyone being forced. So it will be a match. IBF match against a really good opponent and I can’t wait to show everyone a different side of my style.

Promoter Frank Warren added: “Ekow has shown himself to be an opponent of true class in his last two games and I’ve been impressed with what I’ve seen. I’m delighted to have put him in any weight class in the UK at the moment and expect him to win, but they all know how good he is and wouldn’t like the job.

“We won’t worry and will map out a route for him through the world rankings because Ekow is at the point of his career where he’s ready for anything.”
