Eddie Hearn Wants George Kambosos Jr To Fight Devin Haney In Australia Or Las Vegas Boxing News 24

Via Jack Tiernan: WBC lightweight champion Eddie Hearn, Devin Haney promoter, says he wants to host an undisputed clash with the newly crowned IBF/WBA/WBC Franchise/WBO 135-lb champion George Kambosos Jr in Sydney, Australia or Las Vegas if Devin wins his December 4 game against Joseph ‘JoJo’ Diaz Jr.

Kambosos (20-0, 10 KOs) went through a big loss last Saturday night with a decisive round 12 win over four-belt lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez (16-1, 12 KOs) in the match against DAZN at Madison Square Garden [MSG] in New York City.

Entering the fray, Hearn, Matchroom Boxing’s Matchroom Boxing advertising agency that organized the Teofimo-Kambosos event, was hoping to set up a battle between Teofimo and the next 135-lb WBC champion Haney for the title. Light opponent cannot be contested if both men win the match.

Now that Teofimo has lost to Kambosos, Hearn wants to set up a fight between the Australian boxer and Haney, as long as Devin wins the match against Joseph ‘JoJo’ Diaz Jr. next Saturday, December 4 in Las Vegas.

However, Hearn will have a lot of competition to try and get the fight against the Kambosos, as Ryan Garcia has called the Australian out. Most likely, WBA lightweight champions Gervonta ‘The Tank’ Davis and Vasily Lomachenko will also call him out.

Alternatively, Teofimo can choose to request a rematch, which will be crucial given the way he’s underperforming and defeated by Kambosos.

“He is brilliant, Kambosos. He showed off a lot of bottles and in season ten he was gone,” Eddie Hearn told iFL TV of Kambosos’ win over Teofimo Lopez. “He came back and won his eleventh, won his twelfth, and I let him win two rounds.

“The obvious thing is to fight Devin Haney for all the belts. It’s a fight, but Devin must defeat Jojo [Diaz Jr] next week. You have just encountered a situation where the weak [Kambosos] just won, so Devin had to be put on.

“I enjoyed working with George [Kambosos] and take him away [Haney] to Australia. That is a dream. They came from Australia and beat Teofimo Lopez to win all the belts. Unbelievable.

“I was thinking if Teofimo would ignore him, if he would struggle with the weight and get tired in the fight. He was tired in the fight, but then he became strong in nine and ten.

“George seemed to have walked away in tenth place but then came back and won in eleventh and twelfth place. I think it’s the biggest win of all time by an Australian boxer,” Hearn said of Kambosos’ puzzling 12-round decisive win over Teofimo.

“He is [Haney] will get Tank [Gervonta Davis] or anyone. Everyone will want to fight him [if he beats Joseph ‘JoJo’ Diaz Jr on December 4th]. They will think they can beat George Kambosos.

“Listen, child [Kambosos] will create a property. He cracked it, and good luck to him, but hopefully, it’s Devin Haney’s fight. Hopefully he can win the last belt, and he believes he can. We’ll do it in Vegas, or we’ll do it in Sydney [Australia], it’s not important.

“Kambosos is a diamond. Hearn continued. I don’t think he can, and I don’t think he can fight Teofimo Lopez like that.
