Eaton School District unveils new schools with open house, ribbon cuttings – Greeley Tribune

The Eaton School District, which passed a bond package to build schools nearly three years ago, will host a series of public events starting next week to celebrate the opening of those buildings.

American Legion Post 26 at Eaton will present a US flag with restricted access to the new Eaton High School in a 90-minute ceremony Thursday, August 4 at 9:00 a.m. at the school, 1661 Collins St. Tours Initiate High School available after initiation.

The district will host five inaugural events through September 21:

  • New Eaton Elementary School Ribbon Cutting and Open House, Friday, September 9, 3:30-5:00 p.m., 225 Juniper Ave.
  • Eaton High School Community Appointment BBQ, Ribbon Cutting and Open House, Saturday, September 10, 1:00-5:00 p.m. The Eaton High School football team, two-time Class 2A champions, Hosts Platte Valley at 6pm
  • Eaton Middle School Ribbon Cutting and Open House, Thursday, September 15, 2:45-4:00 p.m., 601 1st St.
  • Galeton Elementary School Ribbon Cutting and Open House, 3:30-5:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 21, 24750 3rd St., in Galeton.

For the second year in a row, Eaton students will start school after Labor Day to allow for a longer summer for building construction and renovations. High and middle schools return to classes on Tuesday, September 6th. Primary schools start on Wednesday 7th September.

All Eaton schools also have new start and finish times this year. The primary school day begins at 7:55 a.m. and ends at 3:00 p.m. Middle school is 8:05 am to 3:15 pm and high school is 8:10 am to 3:20 pm all schools is 7:30 am

Eaton posted a $128.5 million bond in 2019 to fund construction and works at each of the district’s five schools. The bond included about $58 million for a new high school, converting the old high school to a middle school for about $40 million, and converting the middle school to a new Eaton Elementary School — for students in kindergarten through kindergarten to fifth grade – for about $16 million.

Benjamin Eaton and Galeton Elementary Schools are being renovated.

The district also passed a $1.5 million mill levy waiver in 2019 to provide additional resources for mental health and safety, provide more funding to attract and retain teachers and support staff, and operate and maintain buildings .

Eaton’s maintenance and transportation departments moved to a new $6.8 million facility in spring 2021.
