The 7th East Tennessee Buccaneers put together one of the most impressive comebacks in recent memory in a Southeast Asian second-round game. The Bucs took out Bang Kennesaw twice in less than a minute and a half to play but we didn’t give up. They managed to recover a kick in the match and then successfully converted the points to 2 goals to send the Buccaneers into the FCS semi-finals.
The Bucs now face No. 2 North Dakota State Bison, who returned home after beating Southern Illinois on the 38-7 line their last time.
It doesn’t take long to realize that ETSU is a pretty big underdog in this game. In fact, they’re the weakest team this weekend and probably any remaining flop or title fight.
This is for good reason as the NDSU is guilty of regularly bullying their FCS colleagues. One of their biggest strengths is scoring in the games as Bison have got 87 points this season. The offense was led by Cam Miller, who just broke the top 100 for passing yards with 1030, and TaMerik Williams with a quick 605 yards. The team is built more to dominate the defence. This is good because, despite having super low status, ETSU has a scary good attack behavior.
To clarify, the Buccaneers have a scary good run running back to Quay Holmes. Holmes, a senior, is second in the FCS for dash yards with 1518 and first with 17 touchdowns. Tyler Riddell is having a good season with 2372 passing yards and a 19/4 TD/INT ratio.
There’s no question who’s the better team here but I think this spread is a bit too much. Especially for a semi-final. ETSU is not a bad team and they are not 25 points behind NDSU either.
Prediction: East Tennessee State +25 (-110)
