The Electronic Entertainment Fair used to be the cornerstone of the video game industrythe week that every publisher, developer and fan had circled in thYour calendar because it was where the year’s biggest news, revelations and interviews were up for grabs.

That was then, however, with “then” being any time from the 1990s to the mid-2010s. As in the last decade but went further Publishers found they could better manage their news cycles themselves in their own time, and the popularity of online news showcases increased, which means E3 became less and less relevant as a blockbuster spectacle (although it remained somewhat useful as a real industrial fair).

There was also a global pandemic which meant the show didn’t happen in person at the LA Convention Center for the last three years and announced the competitors Online showcases have plenty of time to spread their wings. That didn’t help either.

Anyway, now that the pandemic is winding down / people have just stopped caring, live events like E3 are happening again. and with a whole range of E3 spare parts to run for the next few monthsthe organizers of the event have decided to declare now that they will try to bring the whole thing back for 2023.

“We look forward to returning in 2023 with both a digital and in-person event,” Stan Pierre-Louis, CEO of E3 organizer ESA, Has said The Washington Post. “As much as we love these digital events and as much as we love them to reach people and we want that global reach, we also know that there’s a really strong desire for people to come together – to meet in person and see each other and talk about, what makes games great.”

You can’t blame them for trying. But with Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft all happily making big announcements in their own time and Geoff Keighley’s With Summer Game Fest picking up steam, you have to be wondering how much of that “reach to convene” will be left for E3—whose 2021 online show was a disasterif there is already industry– only conferences like the GDC will resumeand fans are now get their big revelations elsewhere.
