Dying Light developer Techland offered a sneak peek at its next project, “a new fantasy epic set in a sprawling open world,” in an update Tuesday as the Polish studio seeks to speed up development on its untitled fantasy RPG . The studio also offered a glimpse into who is developing this new game, a team made up of the talent behind CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher games and Cyberpunk 2077.
Similar to recent announcements from Blizzard Entertainment, Funcom, and Crytek, Techland announced a big new project that has little to show or say about it. There’s only one piece of concept art, revealing an ancient fantasy setting that looks like a departure from Dying Light.
But Techland hopes to lure talent into the studio to help develop the open-world action RPG, in part by revealing who’s already working on it. This list of names includes story director Karolina Stachyra who wrote The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt‘s Bloody Baron questline (among other narrative contributions to The Witcher), Narrative Director Arkadiusz Borowik (The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings), open-world director Bartosz Ochman (Cyberpunk 2077), lead animator Kevin Quaid (Horizon Zero Dawn), lead game designer David McClure (death loop) and creative director Mario Maltezos (crazy max, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time).
In a statement released alongside the concept art and job posting, Techland CEO Paweł Marchewka said of the project, “Our goal is to launch a brand new IP that’s significantly different from what we’ve seen in recent years have done for years. We want to create a complete next-gen experience. A new fantasy epic set in an expansive open world, powered by the skills and experience we have accumulated as a team over the years, infused with new ideas, passion and creativity. While we are unable to share any further details about this project at this time, we are all genuinely interested and look forward to showing it to players when the time comes.”
Marchewka noted in the same statement that Techland plans to continue supporting its latest game, Dying Light 2 Stay Human“for at least 5 years, with a scope and size that matches, if not exceeds, what we provided to our community during post-launch support for its predecessor.”
