Dwayne Haskins teammates NFL players call Adam Schefter over insensitive tweets

NFL players called out ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter for an insensitive tweet as he broke the news of Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins’ death.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins tragically died Saturday at the age of 24 after being hit by a car in south Florida. ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter tweeted the news Saturday but was called out for some insensitive language in the message.

Schefter first tweeted: “Dwayne Haskins, a standout at Ohio State before struggling in the NFL to keep up with Washington and Pittsburgh, died this morning after being hit by a car in south Florida, according to his agent Cedric Saunders. Haskins would have been 25 on May 3.”

He deleted the tweet a few minutes later and posted a new tweet, saying, “Dwayne Haskins, a standout at Ohio State before becoming Washington’s first-round pick and playing in Pittsburgh, died this morning while playing in South Florida from was hit by a car, according to his agent Cedric Saunders. Haskins would have been 25 on May 3.”

NFL players called out Schefter over the language he used when breaking the news of Haskins’ tragic death, including former Ohio State players Cardale Jones and Michael Thomas (a message he retweeted is also included ).

Haskins was in South Florida all week training alongside Steelers quarterbacks, wide receivers and running backs. He had recently signed a one-year contract with the team.
