Box score ANAHEIM, Calif. – Matt Bradley scored 18 points, Lamont Butler 16 more career highs and the San Diego State Aztecs used a 15-1 time in the second half to pull out of Georgetown Hoyas and give the head coach Brian Dutcher 100NS won his career in a 73-56 victory in the semifinals of the Paycom Wooden Legacy at Anaheim Arena.
Coach Dutcher hit a major milestone in his 132th game in charge of the Aztecs. Meanwhile, the Aztec Hall of Fame coach Steve Fisher hit 100 San Diego State wins in his 205th yearNS Game on Mesa.
San Diego State (4-1) hit a season-high 48.3% (29/60) from a deck consisting of seven three-pointers. Butler was the perfect man to take the field with a score of 6/6, including 3 3-point passes. He was the first Aztec player in 26 seasons to play perfectly from the pitch, scoring at least six goals, three from long distances.
The game goes on continuously for the first 15 minutes. But tied at 28-28 and 4:07 before halftime, the Aztecs went on to run 12-4 to finish the inning and take a 40-32 lead at the break. Four players contributed to the run with the last five coming from Adam Seiko, who hit a three on the whistle. SDSU shot 54.8% in the first 20 minutes and had 12 assists on 17 goals.
The second half saw SDSU open the scoring with 14-7 to increase the advantage to 15 points, 54-39 with 15:14 to play. Butler contributed 10 points in the run. The game looked favorable, but Hoyas got ahead five and a half minutes later and took the lead 57-53 with 9:39 to play.
From there, however, the lauded Aztec defense prevailed. San Diego State did not surrender a single goal for the rest of the game. Hoyas (2-2) missed seven shots, SDSU forced them into seven turns and used 15-1 pace to extend the game, en route to a 17-point win.
San Diego State will compete for the Paycom Wooden Legacy championship on Friday, November 26 against Southern California. Tip is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. and the match will be broadcast on ESPN2.
