Dustin Poirier is FanSided MMA Champion Character.
The FanSided MMA’s Pe People’s Champ Award is presented annually to an MMA fighter who is loved by fans around the world but has not been able to break through and win the undisputed championship in their weight class. In 2021, Dustin Poirier is the obvious choice for Pe People’s Champ.
Aside from the Octagon, Poirier is one of the most charitable athletes in the world. Poirier’s Good Fight Foundation has helped raise money to improve the lives of thousands of people. Throughout the years, Poirier has helped provide backpacks for children, donated meals to frontline workers during the COVID-19 pandemic and helped provide clean water to the people of Echuya Batwa in Uganda. Even when it failed, Poirier was charitable. After losing a light title, the fight against Charles Oliviera at UFC 269, Poirier pledges $20,000 to any charity of her choice.
Inside of the Octagon, Poirier is trusted by fans for its exciting fighting style that produces knockout endings and memorable fights. Since his UFC debut at UFC 125 on January 1, 2011, he has fought 28 times for promotion, winning 12 awards, including six for the night fight. In 2021, Poirier fought three times. In addition to his loss to Oliviera at UFC 269, Poirier fought Conor McGregor at UFC 257 and UFC 264, winning both by TKO.

The only achievement that has kept Poirier evasive is the undisputed championship. While Poirier won the interim championship at UFC 236 when he defeated Max Holloway, he was unable to unify the championship at UFC 242 when submitted by Khabib Nurmagomedov. After winning three fights in a row, Poirier got his second title shot but was submitted by Oliviera at UFC 269.
In 2022, Poirier will once again be looking to win the undisputed first championship. However, Poirier remained realistic about his chances of achieving that, believing he would have to win five in a row to win another title at lightweight. Poirier, who will turn 33 in 2022, has said in interviews that he is considering switching to bodyweight instead of reducing weight to a light level.
No matter what Poirier decides to do in 2022, he will remain a People of Minority. Poirier will forever be a fan favorite because of his fighting style and charity work outside of the Octagon.
The annual FanSided MMA award is voted by the FanSided MMA team every year. Stay tuned for more prizes announced for the day.
