Duke vs. Finals. UNC Four Matches With Big Competition for Coach K

As Mike Krzyzewski and Duke Blue Devils prepare to face North Carolina Tar Heels in Final Four, Coach K faces some interesting rivalry.

Duke Blue Devils and North Carolina Tar Heels are preparing for a pretty big head-to-head matchup. Duke and North Carolina first met in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

That will be interesting regardless of which round of the NCAA Tournament it takes, but this meeting will be in the Quarterfinals.

The stakes here are quite high. The winning team will move on and compete for the national championship. Whoever loses then goes home and has to watch their opponent try to claim a title.

Pretty big, right?

To make things more interesting, this match has an even higher rate of competition than that. As it turns out, Mike Krzyzewski adds another level of interest to this encounter between the Blue Devil and the Tar God.

Four finals: Duke vs. North Carolina has big competitive implications for Mike Krzyzewski

As Bryan Ives pointed out on Twitter, this will be Coach K’s 100th time facing North Carolina. So far, he has won a match against Tar Heels more than he has lost.

That means if Duke wins this Final Four meeting, Krzyzewski will be able to retire with a record of winning against his opponent. If Tar Heels were to play, Coach K would only be able to hold his opponent to a draw for the rest of his career and his last meeting with North Carolina would be a loss.

No big deal, right?
