Drew McIntyre is a top star in WWE, but there are still new challenges and opportunities for him to pursue. That may include one of the most popular and controversial names in combat sports.
“Jake Paul is everyone’s enemy I guess [laughs],” said McIntyre talkSPORT. “He understands. So very few people are willing to be the real bad guy and make the public pay to see them get beaten up, and he’s a real bad guy.”
Paul was famous on social media before joining acting. More recently, his professional boxing career has turned into another lucrative venture.
Paul has set a 4-0 undefeated record in his youth career, which includes a win over former UFC champion Tyron Woodley, MMA veteran Ben Askren and former NBA player Nate Robinson.
Jake Paul is currently promoting and preparing for his fight against Tommy Fury. The two will clash next month in Tampa, Florida.
“Whenever I see him show up at these events and the whole crowd starts booing him, I’m like, ‘wow, that’s great,'” Drew McIntyre said.
Paul was up to his old tricks before his fight with Fury, to the detriment of his opponent and his fans. McIntyre admired the tactics Paul used to draw interest in his battles.
“It was like Muhammad Ali back in the day,” explains McIntyre. “People just remember the good parts and how great he was, but if you remember in the beginning of Ali’s career, he hit his heels and got inspired by WWE and played that character, making people hate him. So they will spend money to see. he is defeated.
Drew McIntyre sees Jake Paul as his potential future rival. But any match between the two would likely have to take place in a WWE ring.
“He [Jake] basically the number one heel in the world,” says McIntyre. “So if he wants to beat WWE and get Claymored in the face, that’s just fine with me!”
Jake Paul’s brother, Logan, appeared in WWE earlier this year. That included playing a role in the Kevin Owens vs Sami Zayn match at WrestleMania 37.
