But Bill Russell wasn’t just about the insult. Throughout his illustrious career, the all-time great was known as one of the greatest defensive players to ever set foot on the hardwood. Citing his dominance in the color space, sports analyst Chris Broussard confirms that Russell would have been a superstar even today.

On a recent episode of The Odd Couple show, the 53-year-old analysts said, “Look at Bill Russell, oh, was he even 6’10,” he might have been 6’9, couldn’t really shoot jumpers, would wasn’t good today…Ben Wallace was recently in the Hall of Fame at 6’7″…Draymond Green is now playing center at 6’6″. Robert Williams III wreaks havoc in today’s NBA. Don’t tell me that Bill Russell, one of the greatest athletes in the league, couldn’t have been a superstar in today’s NBA.”

Broussard and Rob Parker continued to praise Russell. Broussard compared Russell favorably to the likes of Ben Wallace, Draymond Green and Robert Williams III. These players occupy 4th and 5th place on the team – similar to Bill Russell’s position on the court.

Bill Russell would have fit on any team in any era

There are very few players who have no limits when it comes to playing – not even a change of playstyle or era. Bill Russell’s influence on the game of basketball was unmatched. He was simply brilliant on the pitch and left his mark on the entire sport for years to come. While it’s difficult to compare the different eras of the NBA, Russell could still be a dominant force in the NBA today.
