Donovan Mitchell hints that we’re not getting the full story with the Knicks
Despite being traded from the Utah Jazz to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Donovan Mitchell has come out and said he could have gone to the Knicks, but there’s more to the story than we know.
Leave it to him New York Knicks finding a way to pass up an opportunity to bring a superstar like Donovan Mitchell into their building as only they can.
Once again they had the opportunity to get a superstar and bring light to Madison Square Garden, and Once again, the Knicks failed.
However, there is another part of this story that has not yet been told. In an interview with ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, Mitchell explained how he thought he would end up with the Knicks.
It just took a different turn. It really looks like the Knicks were ready to strike a big deal, but due to various factors and their unwillingness to live up to the exacting demands of Danny Ainge and the Jazz, it didn’t happen.
This mere revelation softens the blow for the Knicks a bit, but once again they have nothing to show for it. While RJ Barrett and Julius Randle are nice touches, they’re nowhere near Mitchell, who would have given the Garden a cause for excitement for the first time since the 2020-21 season.
Donovan Mitchell said there was more to the story of not ending up with the New York Knicks.
All is not lost. New York still has plenty of draft picks that if used wisely, they could find someone like Donovan Mitchell and other supporting plays around him. At the same time, Mitchell could have been a kink long before this situation arose.
The year Mitchell was drafted, the Knicks passed him on in favor of Frank Ntilikina, who, while still playing in the league, continues to give ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith Phil Jackson-era nightmares. Mitchell went to Utah and has been a force ever since. Now he’s headed to Cleveland in hopes of taking the Cavaliers to the next step.
As for the Knicks, they’re back to who they are and it’s hurting their fanbase. At the same time it means Stephen A rants more about the team which, to be honest, needs to be seen on TV and is very entertaining and hilarious. Mitchell could have been a Knick and that would have been avoided, and the Knicks had two chances to get him. In the end they failed, as they always seem to do.
