Donna Murphy, Kelli O’Hara get promoted to series regular

After the monumental success of the first season, which was quickly renewed by HBO, The Gilded Age builds massively on its already solid foundation for Season 2. As of Deadline, 13 of the series’ recurring characters are returning and becoming regulars, increasing the main cast to 24 from 12 in the first season. Promotions include Kelli O’Hara as Aurora Fane, Donna Murphy as Mrs. Astor, Debra Monk as Armstrong, Christina Nielsen as a woman farmer Taylor Richardson as Bridget, Ben Ahlers as jack trotter, Kelly Curran as a gymnast, Douglas Sills as Baudin aka Borden, Celia Keenan-Bolger Mrs Bruce, Michael Cerveris as Watson, Erin Wilhelmi as Adelheid Weber, Patrick Page as Richard Clay and Sullivan Jones as T Thomas Fortune.

If that math above sounded wrong, it’s because a cast member will not be returning for a second time in the historical drama. Thomas Coquerel and his powerful lawyer, Tom Raikes, are leaving the series as hinted at at the end of the first season. Aside from him, the rest of the talented main cast remains intact Christine Baransky, Cynthia Nixon, Louise Jacobson, Blake Ritson, Carrie Coon, Morgan Spector, Taissa Farmiga, Harry Richardson, Denee Benton, Simon Jonesand Jack Gilpin all ready to reprise their roles in the second season.

With the expansion of the main cast The Gilded Age Season 2 reveals some of their potential storylines. The vast majority of promotions went to the lower-tier characters among the cast, suggesting that we can expect more moments from the servants than they do by the aristocracy’s bidding. not how Julian Fellowes‘ previous series Downton Abbeyworking-class life is seldom explored to the same extent The Gilded Age. These new casting decisions could change that notion and give viewers a chance to see what life is like for the lower crust during such a decadent time.
